Newport, Kentucky – Campbell County Judge/Executive Steve Pendery announced that the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) has secured $750,000 to conduct a comprehensive transportation study of the I-471 corridor. The study will examine mobility and safety issues in the corridor as well as the functionality of all interchanges on I-471. Judge Pendery serves a Vice-President of OKI.
“As one of the most congested corridors in Northern Kentucky, the study of I-471 is critical to our region,” Campbell County Judge/Executive Steve Pendery said. “We are certain that the outcome of the study will have beneficial influences on traffic flow, air quality, safety and economic development.”
Included in the study area is I-471 from the Ohio River to Northern Kentucky University (NKU). Also included is KY 8 from I-471 on the east to the Taylor Southgate Bridge on the west and US 27 in the vicinity of NKU.
The study will be executed through two phases from which potential improvements will be developed, evaluated and prioritized. Phase I will include the corridor analysis at a cost of $450,000 and Phase II will be the Interchange Modification Studies at a cost of $300,000. The money received to conduct this study is through federal Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality (CMAQ) funds.
OKI is a council of local governments, business organizations and community groups committed to developing collaborative strategies, plans and programs to improve the quality of life and economic development potential of the Tri-State.
A special website has been setup for this study.
